Claude Desktop can now easily run Qwen, DeepSeek and Kimi models — after Ollama’s first effort stalled
Ollama has released v0.33.0, a new integration letting Claude Desktop route requests to models it serves, including Qwen, DeepSeek, Kimi and GLM, running locally or via Ollama Cloud. Users can map models to Claude's picker slots — in one example, Opus 5 routes to Kimi K3 and Sonnet 5 to DeepSeek V4 Pro. The feature is currently limited to Ollama's Mac app.

The UK Power Grid Has a Phantom Data Center Problem
The UK's energy regulator, Ofgem, is proposing steep, nonrefundable deposits — potentially hundreds of millions of dollars for the largest sites — to clear speculative projects from the grid connection queue, with industry feedback due in September. The queue's total demand grew from 41 gigawatts in November 2024 to 125 gigawatts by June 2025, with new data centers making up 73 gigawatts of that total.
